The testimony: the doorway in
In the Quran's own words: "I bear witness there is no god but He, alone, no partner has He — and I believe in God, His angels, His books, and His messengers; we make no distinction between any of them, and we submit to Him" (Aal Imran 3:18, Al-An'am 6:163, Al-Baqarah 2:285). One declaration summarizing the entire creed: none deserves worship except God, with belief in all His messengers without distinction.

Five daily prayers organize the whole day around the remembrance of God — no stretch of hours passes without the heart returning to its Lord. Prayer is the backbone of the religion and the first thing a person will be asked about.

Zakat purifies wealth and is a known right of the poor. Fasting Ramadan is a yearly school of God-consciousness and self-mastery — and it is the month in which the Quran was sent down. Hajj is the greatest gathering of monotheism: millions standing in identical dress before the One God, equal — no one ranked above another except by piety.
