The testimony: the doorway in

To bear witness that there is no god but God, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. One sentence summarizing the entire creed: none deserves worship except God, and Muhammad ﷺ delivered His final message.

“Say: He is God, the One. God, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”
Surah Al-Ikhlas 112

Prayer: the daily connection

Five daily prayers organize the whole day around the remembrance of God — no stretch of hours passes without the heart returning to its Lord. Prayer is the backbone of the religion and the first thing a person will be asked about.

“Verily, in the remembrance of God do hearts find rest.”
Ar-Ra’d 13:28

Charity, fasting, and pilgrimage

Zakat purifies wealth and is a known right of the poor. Fasting Ramadan is a yearly school of God-consciousness and self-mastery — and it is the month in which the Quran was sent down. Hajj is the greatest gathering of monotheism: millions standing in identical dress before the One God, equal — no one ranked above another except by piety.

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
Al-Baqarah 2:185
