What does the word "Islam" mean?
Linguistically, Islam means willing surrender and submission. Religiously: surrendering to God alone in worship and obeying Him. God says: "Indeed, the religion in the sight of God is Islam" (Aal Imran 3:19).
Who is "Allah"?
"Allah" is simply the Arabic name of the One God, Creator of the universe — the God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, peace be upon them. Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews use the same word. The Quran describes Him: "Say: He is God, the One. God, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent" (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112).
Do Muslims worship Muhammad ﷺ?
No. Muslims worship God alone; Muhammad ﷺ is God's servant and messenger who delivered His final message. God says: "Say: I am only a man like you, to whom it has been revealed that your god is one God" (Al-Kahf 18:110).
What is the Quran?
The Quran is the word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the angel Gabriel over twenty-three years — the one scripture preserved letter for letter in its original text: "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian" (Al-Hijr 15:9). It consists of 114 surahs, all listed in our surah index.
What does Islam say about Jesus, peace be upon him?
Islam honors Jesus immensely: he is the Messiah, a word from God bestowed upon the Virgin Mary, born miraculously without a father, and supported by God with miracles — yet he is God's servant and messenger, not God nor the son of God. The Quran says: "The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was but a messenger of God and His word which He directed to Mary, and a soul from Him" (An-Nisa 4:171). An entire surah of the Quran is named after Mary.
Is Islam only for Arabs?
Not at all — the message is universal, for all humanity: "And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds" (Al-Anbiya 21:107). Arabs today are a minority among Muslims. And the only measure between people: "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of God is the most righteous of you" (Al-Hujurat 49:13).
Are people forced into Islam?
The Quranic text is explicit: "There shall be no compulsion in religion; the right course has become clear from the wrong" (Al-Baqarah 2:256). Faith is a conviction of the heart that is invalid under coercion; the caller's duty is only to convey and clarify.
Why did God create us?
God created us to know and worship Him, and made this life a test: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me" (Adh-Dhariyat 51:56); "He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed" (Al-Mulk 67:2). Existence has a purpose, and deeds have a recompense.
How does someone become a Muslim?
With one sincere sentence from the heart: "I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God." No rituals, no intermediaries, no preconditions — a direct relationship with God that begins from that very moment.
Where should I start reading the Quran?
Start with Al-Fatiha, then the short surahs (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas), reading a little each day with reflection. We prepared a full plan in the article "How to start with the Quran" in the learning corner — and the surah index links you to the complete text of every chapter.
